Felipe Melo rants after Brazil's loss
Former Brazil footballer Felipe Melo expressed his discontent with Brazil's performance in the first half against Argentina during the 14th round of the qualifiers this Tuesday.
La Albiceleste humbled Brazil's national team 4-1 on matchday 14 of the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers. Brazil headed into the fixture with a confident win over Columbia. One of their key players, Raphinha made a bold statement of 'crushing' the world champions before the match. However, on the matchday, it was just the opposite as Argentina showed their class to the five-time world champions.
Felipe Melo's outburst following Brazil's dismal performance
Felipe Melo vented out his frustration at the below-par performance of the national side on his Instagram. The former player did not hold back his criticisms.
He commented on the team's style of play and the players' approach to the match, stating that '3-1 was not enough.'
He criticised the current lot of players for being involved in personal enmities which harmed the overall objectives of the national team. He questioned the dismissive attitude of the players who failed to show any intent on or off the ball.
"(It was) a lousy first half for the national team. Thank God we scored a goal, now we really have to wait for the coach to change. Now the teacher is going to come in. It has to change, 3-1... I'll talk to you... I believe until the end. The first half ended, and Brazil wanted to fight. Brazil, which fights among themselves, has to go to the locker room and start fighting, for the good of the national team. " Melo said.
Popularly called the 'Pitbull', slammed Neymar critics and asserted how one-legged Neymar can carry the team better than in the present times.
"I'm going to block anyone who says they don't need Neymar. With only one leg, Neymar is the number 10 for the Brazilian team. They said a lot before the game, and Argentina made it to the final. Brazil didn't. 3-1 wasn't enough. If you change your attitude, you can draw, but you have to change your attitude." Melo added.
Felipe Melo had made 22 appearances for Brazil between 2009-10. He had also netted two goals for his national side. The former centre-back represented many top Serie A clubs like - Inter-Milan, Juventus and Fiorentina throughout his career. He announced his retirement from football at the age of 41 this year.
