WATCH: Fans go into a frenzy as Conor Gallagher sings Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You'

Spanish football club Atletico Madrid's midfielder Conor Gallagher impressed fans with his vocal skills as he took the stage to perform a modern-day classic. 

Joining a band, Gallagher showed his talent by singing 'Shape of You,' the popular Ed Sheeran track that became a global sensation in 2017. The spontaneous nature of the performance was captured in a video that quickly gained attention on social media, leaving fans excited and amazed by Gallagher's vocal talent.

Conor Gallagher sings 'Shape of You'

The video marks a collaboration between Atletico and the Spanish lager brand Mahou. Earlier, the club's official account on X issued an exciting challenge for fans, and that was to showcase their singing talents by recording videos that could potentially surpass Gallagher. Aspiring artists who participate will have the opportunity to win a chance to perform live at Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

Earlier this season, Gallagher's teammate Rodrigo Riquelme took part in a similar event with Atleti women’s players Gio Garbelini and Andrea Medina. In the video, Gallagher confidently performed alongside two singers and a saxophonist.

While Gallagher's performance was commendable, it may be prudent to focus on football. Atletico is deeply engaged in the Spanish title race, trailing leaders Barcelona by just one point with 14 matches remaining. They have a favourable matchup against struggling Valencia this Saturday night, followed by the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Barcelona in the middle of the week.

The English midfielder has made a total of 18 appearances since joining Atletico Madrid from Chelsea in 2024. He has netted a total of 2 goals for the club across club competitions.
