WATCH: Fans abuses Joao Felix as he returns back to Atletico Madrid during the pre-season tour

On Saturday night during the pre-season, Joao Felix has returned backed to Atletico Madrid for the match against Getafe. During the match, Joad Felix played for the first half and scored a goal in by the end of the first half. Earlier this week Joao Felix returned back to training after playing for Portugal in Euro 2024. 

However, Portugal and Joao Felix's campaign ended on a bad note as he missed a penalty during the quarter-final against France. He was criticized for his miss lot after that. Ahead of the upcoming La Liga season Joao Felix who was on loan returned back to his main club and has started training for the season ahead. 

Despite rumours that he was only speaking with a few players, including Reinildo Mandala and Samuel Lino, he was seen later in the week with other teammates. Wearing the number 21 jersey, with his number seven taken by club legend Antoine Griezmann, Felix began against Getafe and was one of the better performances, helping Atletico to a 2-0 lead at half-time before being replaced, before the game ended 3-1.

Though his name was on the scoresheet fans did not have seeing him back in the team. Many fans started to boo him. When Felix emerged for the warm-up before the game, he was whistled and booed by several Atletico fans, primarily from the away section. Chants were also directed against him, with hundreds singing "this Portuguese, what a son of a ***** he is".

Joao Felix praised fans after the match

At the end of the game, Felix stood back while his teammates approached the visiting supporters to praise them. The striker remained near to the touchline and midway line before departing the stadium in a private car rather than the team bus. The forward's future remains unknown, but if he is to stay at Atletico Madrid, he must seek to repair a strained connection with his own fans.

In 2019 Atletico Madrid signed him from Benfica for 113 million euros but after two season he was loaned to Chelsea and after one season he was loaned to Barcelona. Despite his transfer he is with Atletico Madrid for the 2024/25 La Liga.
