In the second half, Robin Gosens, a former Inter and Atalanta player, gave Fiorentina the victory, but De Gea once again played a key role by making two incredible stops that earned him MOTM and sent the Viola home with three points.

After a 12-year stint in Manchester, England, De Gea arrived at Fiorentina as a free agent last season. With 19 points, the Serie A squad is presently fourth in the league, and De Gea has been instrumental in the club's early success. With the Spaniard in goal, the squad has gone six games without a loss and he leads the team in save percentage and saves per ninety minutes.

De Gea was regarded as one of the 2010s' top goalkeepers in the Premier League. He reached five PFA Team of the Year squads, won two Golden Gloves, won the league in 2012–13, and received other club awards. In the 2023 EFL Cup final, he celebrated breaking Peter Schmeichel's record as the all-time Manchester United clean sheets leader.

Why did David de Gea leave Manchester United in 2023?

When he left the Red Devils in 2023, he was the final player from the Sir Alex Ferguson period to do so, having played 415 Premier League games. After succumbing to Manchester City during the 2022–2023 FA Cup final, when the team's adversary solidified a historic triple, his final match with the team undoubtedly left supporters with a bad taste in their mouths.

De Gea's relationship with his former boss was strained due to a number of factors, including his pay, patchy play, Ten Hag's coaching style, and the league-wide shift to goalkeepers who play the ball and build from the back. At the time, he was not the only Manchester United player being scrutinized; some players are still being scrutinized now.
