Carvajal rejects Mbappe

When Kylian Mbappe was subbed on for Real Madrid during their game against LOSC Lille in the UEFA Champions League, the fans saw a little bit of tension between teammates. After stepping onto the pitch, Kylian Mbappe tried slapping Dani Carvajal’s hand.

However, to his surprise, Carvajal did not return the gesture back, which may be a cause of concern or shows the weird bond between the two teammates.  Nevertheless, Real Madrid had to face a shock defeat against Lille and are stuttering at 17th place in the revamped UEFA Champions League table.

Real Madrid got back to winning ways later in the week as they were able to streamroll past Villareal to maintain their unbeaten start to the new La Liga season. The team’s streak of thirty victories and eleven draws in La Liga was extended to forty-one games on Saturday night as they defeated Villareal 2-0.

But the victory wasn't without a price: Vinicius Jr. was substituted off the field due to what appeared to be a shoulder injury, while right back Dani Carvajal was hurt in the last minute of play. After colliding with Yeremy Pino and appearing to overextend his knee, Carvajal screamed in agony and got carried off the field sobbing.

“It’s an injury that I hope will be as minimal” : Carlo Ancelotti

After the match at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, club head coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media and discussed the club's injury worry. The Real Madrid manager said, “It looks like quite a serious knee injury, but we’ll have to evaluate it in the next few hours. The dressing room is sad and worried because something has happened that happens many times in the season and unfortunately it has happened to a very important player for us,” Ancelotti had said.

The former Everton head coach said, “He’s an essential player for us because of his experience. We’re going to wait, I’ve spoken to him and he’s sad and disappointed. We can’t do much about it now. We have to wait for the medical assessment and then think about getting him back. I spoke to the doctor and he told me it was a knee injury. He didn’t tell me what it is. They have to do some tests. It’s an injury that I hope will be as minimal as possible,”
