Virgil van Dijk vs Crystal Palace

The reason Virgil van Dijk did not give up a penalty later in Liverpool's 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on the road has been promptly clarified by the Premier League. After reviewing the footage, video assistant referee David Coote determined there was no reason to penalize Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk for his altercation with Palace and England player Marc Guehi in the box.

Arne Slot's team secured their most recent victory at Selhurst Park thanks to a goal from Diogo Jota early in the game. However, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner was incensed on the touchline after Guehi went down during the 71st minute and referee Simon Hooper did not signal for a penalty. However, the procedure was promptly clarified by the Premier League's social media match center account.

The statement said, “The referee’s call of no penalty for the challenge by van Dijk on Guehi is checked and confirmed by VAR - deeming that the challenge was not sustained holding and had no impact on the play.”

“I think there is always expectations” : Virgil van Dijk

The Liverpool centre-back spoke to the media after the game as he said, "It is hard to come here. The results over the years are tight and close. I think obviously we scored a fantastic goal. We could have done better in the second half, but we knew they'd come out with a bit of pressure on the ball. It ends our run on a high before the internationals.

The former Southampton defender won the player of the match and spoke about getting cleans sheets. He said, "We keep going and we keep working. We are never satisfied. We needed Alli [Alisson] twice, but that is what we try to avoid. Everyone is contributing to clean sheets. I think there is always expectations towards different teams - whatever the outside world thinks of us we don't really care. We want to try to challenge, compete, win and be successful."
