Liverpool approached the match sitting at the summit of the Premier League standings, demonstrating their exceptional form throughout the season.

On the other side, Tottenham Hotspur were sitting in 14th place in the league table, a position that reflects their hardships this season. However, in the past week, the team has displayed promising signs of improvement, including their 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the first semi-final leg.

Cody Gakpo gives the Reds an important lead

The hosts asserted dominance at Anfield right from the start. Liverpool dominated possession and shots. They launched waves of attacks one after the other and it seemed a goal that is an equaliser in terms of aggregate was on the cards.

A goal felt inevitable, and it finally arrived in the 34th minute. Bissouma, who appeared to have injured himself while conceding a corner, lost possession in midfield, allowing Mo Salah to receive the ball out wide. He expertly curled it into the corridor with the outside of his boot. Nunez missed it with an overhead attempt, and Jones arrived just a moment too late. However, at the back post, Gakpo managed to connect, finding the net inside the near post.

As a result, Liverpool led Tottenham Hotspur with a solitary goal during the half-time with an aggregate scoreline of 1-1. With the finals at stake, both teams had all to play for in the final 45 minutes
