After La Liga and the RFEF rejected Barcelona's previous attempts to register the players for the second half of the season, the CSD's decision was made. Although Olmo and Victor were originally signing during the summer transfer window, Barcelona's inability to adhere to La Liga's strict wage ceiling requirements prevented them from being registered for more than half of the season. On December 31, 2024, their first registration expired.

Barcelona's appeal against La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) was upheld by Spain's top sports court, the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), granting the club temporary permission to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. The judgement permits both players to remain available for selection while the case is still being examined by the CSD.

Joan Laporta, the president of FC Barcelona, enthusiastically praised the Higher Sports Council's (CSD) decision to temporarily permit Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor's registration until the club's appeal is heard. Laporta heard the news, and the scene was captured on camera by Catalan public TV TV3. In response, the president celebrated with other FC Barcelona executives and advisors, exchanged a happy embrace with his advisor Enric Masip, and made an uninhibited fake motion in the air with his back to the camera.

When it was discovered that the two players had not been granted permission to register, tensions increased. Laporta reportedly lost his anger and insulted Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) members, according to sources from El Larguero. He allegedly referred to them as "cowards," "scoundrels," and "scared" for preventing the players from registering. Officials on the RFEF's Board of Directors were the target of these remarks.

Dani Olmo, who signed a 55 million euros, six-year contract with Barcelona from RB Leipzig in August, emerged as a pivotal player for the Catalan team in the first half of the campaign. The Spanish international finished as the equal top scorer at Euro 2024, where he also excelled. Another summer addition, Victor, has been seen as a bright player for the team. Before the match, manager Hansi Flick said his team was quite relieved after winning the Super Cup.
