In a jaw-dropping moment that left fans on their feet, Antonio Sanabria scored a spectacular bicycle kick to bring Paraguay level with Argentina, making it 1-1 in a fierce World Cup qualifying match. Facing Lionel Scaloni’s skilled Argentine side at the Defensores de Chaco, Sanabria delivered what could be described as the goal of his career.

It was an unforgettable equalizer that now ranks among the most memorable moments of the South American Qualifiers. The play leading to Sanabria’s goal unfolded swiftly. It began with an assist from Gustavo Velázquez, positioning Sanabria in the box for a stunning finish.

Here is the video:

Just moments prior, Paraguay’s captain, Gustavo Gómez, suffered a collision with the post, adding a heightened intensity to the sequence. Amidst the tension, Sanabria executed a perfectly timed bicycle kick that sailed past the Argentine defence and goalkeeper, electrifying the stadium.

Argentina started with a lead!

For Paraguay, Sanabria’s goal symbolized resilience and creativity on the field. Fans couldn’t help but replay the incredible shot, and many commentators already labelled it as a potential “best goal of the qualifiers.”

Argentina initially took the lead through Lautaro Martínez, who found the net with an assist from Enzo Fernandez in the 11th minute. In a tense moment, the linesman initially disallowed Martínez's goal due to a suspected offside. Still, after reviewing the play with the VAR, referee Anderson Daronco overturned the decision, allowing Argentina to celebrate a well-earned lead.

However, Sanabria’s dazzling strike quickly extinguished Argentina’s advantage, showcasing Paraguay’s fighting spirit. Notably, this round of quails is significant for both teams as Argentina would look to remain at the top while Paraguay will be keen to make a move into the top 5. They are currently sixth in the points table with three wins in 11 matches. It’s worth mentioning that Sanabria is the third-highest scorer in the tournament behind Lionel Messi and Darwin Núñez.
