Historical three-time winners of the UEFA Euros saw the quarter final match between Germany and Spain take place at the Stuttgart Arena on Friday. The two teams are competing for a quarterfinal position. The eighth-minute substitution, midfielder Pedri, was forced to leave the game. A late and violent tackle from Toni Kroos caused him to go down holding his knees during the first minutes of the game.

After Pedri received care, he returned to the game, but he soon went down again, possibly indicating that he was damaged beyond repair. Dani Olmo of RB Leipzig replaced him as he hobbled off the field while covering his face.

Olmo had appeared in 36 games for Spain before to today, contributing eight assists and nine goals. Olmo only made one start during Euro 2024 (against Albania), coming in as a substitute in the other two games. Thus far in the competition, he has tallied one goal and one assist.

Why is Germany superstar Florian Wirtz not starting the UEFA Euro 2024 game versus Spain?

Leroy Sane starts in place of Florian Wirtz, a German midfielder, for the match against Spain. In the round of 16 match versus Denmark, the Bayer Leverkusen player, who started as the team's left winger under Julian Nagelsmann in the group stages, did not stand out. During the 10th minute of the competition against Scotland, the 21-year-old not only assisted but also scored the game's first goal.

Robert Andrich, who just had an incredible undefeated campaign with Bayer Leverkusen, has started every game for Germany in the competition thus far, logging 246 minutes of action. Nevertheless, after receiving a booking in Germany's first game against Scotland, the 29-year-old is just one yellow card from serving a semifinal suspension if Germany progresses.

With the exception of the match against Switzerland, Emre Can has started every game off the bench. In the first game against Scotland, he even scored the fifth goal.
