Germany played Denmark in the RO16 fixture of the UEFA Euro 2024. The game was end-to-end as both sides failed to score a goal in the first half of the game. There was an unusual interruption in the game, due to adverse weather conditions as there were continuous thunderstorms in the game, and the match was suspended by the referee. The incident occurred in the 36th minute, when lightning flashed over the stadium, prompting referee Michael Oliver to call the game off. 

The game started 15 minutes later as the 45 minutes was 0-0. Both sides had their chances of breaking the deadlock but failed. The game was equally poised in the first half as it saw, the host nation score in the five minutes of the game after Nico Scholtterbeck headed the ball from the corner but it was overturned by VAR due to a foul from Joshua Kimmich during the incident. 

Denmark had their best chance right ahead of the first half when Jamal Musiala gave the ball away in midfield with Christian Eriksen passing through the lines to spring Delaney away on the counter-attack. The midfielder charged towards Germany's half, drawing Rudiger towards him, before squaring a pass across the face of goal for Rasmus Hojlund, whose chipped finish was swatted away by Manuel Neuer.  

Musiala secures the win 

The second half was very open as both sides tried to score a goal and the Danes opened the scoring after Joachim Andersen put the ball in the net however it was chalked off due to Delaney being offside during the buildup. Soon the Deutschland finally broke the deadlock after David Raum’s cross was deflected by the fingers of Andersen inside the box leading to a penalty with Kai Havertz scoring from the spot.
