Mikel Arteta is optimistic about Arsenal's chances in the Champions League this season as they prepare for their last-16 matchup against PSV.
The Gunners played a lame fixture against Nottingham Forest last week, ending in a goalless tie. They aim to regain momentum in the Premier League, where they currently sit 13 points behind table-toppers Liverpool after their victory over Newcastle United. Arteta asserted that Arsenal has the resources and potential to bounce back and make a strong push in both competitions.
Arteta is confident about Arsenal's chances
As the north London club's ambitions for the Premier League title become increasingly slim, manager Arteta is shifting his focus towards European success. He believes that his team possesses the necessary resources to contend for the Champions League title this year. Arsenal advanced to the round of 16 after finishing third in the league stage, showing their defensive strength by conceding only three goals in eight matches.
Arteta stated that the team has the necessary resources and has already demonstrated their potential. A look at the most successful teams reveals that a strong defensive record is crucial. Furthermore, he is confident that Arsenal has proven their ability to score a good number of goals in the competition.
"We cannot change it; we have to learn from it and take that into the next game. There are a lot of things we have learned this season in the Champions League about ourselves. We have played very differently home and away the last year, especially in Europe." Arteta said.
"We have those resources; that's what the team has already done. Now we have to continue to do it. When you look at the teams that have been very successful, the defensive record is critical. Then we have shown the capacity to score a lot of goals in the competition. Now the team is different, but this team still has a lot of resources to do that." Arteta added.
Arsenal will clash against Dutch club PSV in the first leg of the round of 16 in an away fixture. The Gunners will then take on Manchester United this coming Sunday.
