Despite another lackluster performance against Slovenia, England tops Group C and advances to the UEFA Euro 2024 knockout semi finals. With a win against Serbia and a draw versus Denmark, Gareth Southgate's team earned up four points from their opening two games. Outcomes in Group B on Monday ensure that England will, at the very least, be among the top four third-place teams and go to the knockout stages.

Even though England's fans booed the team at full time due to their subpar performance, a scoreless draw in Cologne had been sufficient to guarantee top spot since Denmark was unable to defeat Serbia. With a guaranteed return to Gelsenkirchen, England's Round of 16 matchup location and time are now known.

After winning Group C, England's opponent in the Round of 16 will be one of the top four teams in third place. The complicated method used to determine who advances depends on whatever combination of third-place teams progresses. That being said, Gareth Southgate's team could play the Netherlands.

England will probably play Italy or Switzerland during the quarterfinals since they won the group and should make it to the last 16. More importantly, they will not be playing France during the semi-finals because the French team placed second in Group D. This is because they won the group. Portugal, Spain, and Germany will be on the opposing side of the draw.

Gareth Southgate listens to fans as he drops Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold was benched by England manager Gareth Southgate for Tuesday's Euro 2024 match against Slovenia. With a spot guaranteed for the knockout stages already secured, the Three Lions concluded their group phase in Cologne. Nevertheless, England's performances have drawn harsh criticism.

The outstanding player for Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold, has been benched after starting both games in midfield against Denmark and Serbia. Conor Gallagher, a midfielder for Chelsea, has taken his place. The Three Lions side stayed the same during the 0-0 tie with Slovenia except from that change.
