Real Madrid's midfielder Luka Modric has decided to bid farewell to the Spanish giants after delivering more than a decade of service to the fifteen-time Spanish champions. Real Madrid's legend Cristiano Ronaldo posted a heartfelt message on the occasion.

Luka Modric will leave the Galacticos after the FIFA Club World Cup window. Croatian is yet to comment on his future professional endeavours.

Cristiano Ronaldo's message for Luka Modric on Instagram 

After rendering 13 years of his professional career at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu, the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner has decided to call it a day as his contract expires in the summer transfer window. The 39-year-old still has the FIFA World Cup 2026 in his sights and may represent Croatia in the marquee event.

One of Modric's closest friends and compatriots, former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo propagated his message to the emotional farewell post from Luka Modric on his social media.

"Thanks for everything, Luka It was an honour to share so many moments with you at the club. Wishing you all the best in what’s to come!" Ronaldo commented.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric spent a total of six years together with Real Madrid. Between 2012 and 2018 the duo won an astonishing 15 trophies that included four UEFA Champions League titles. The highest goal scorer in the history of football is currently playing in the Saudi Pro League for his club, Al-Nassr.

Modric's letter to the fans 

"Dear Madrid fans, the time has come. The moment I never wanted to come, but that's football, and in life everything has a beginning and an end... On Saturday I will play my last match at the Santiago Bernabéu. I arrived in 2012 with the desire to wear the shirt of the best team in the world and with the ambition to do big things, but I couldn't imagine what came next."

"I feel proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history. I want to thank the club from the bottom of my heart, especially the president Florentino Perez, my teammates, coaches and all the people who have helped me during all this time. Throughout these years I've experienced incredible moments, comebacks that seemed impossible, finals, celebrations and magical nights at the Bernabéu... We won everything and I was very happy. Very, very happy."
