Retired Manchester United player set for full-time coaching role in Eredivisie

According to a recent source, Heerenveen has recognised Van Persie as a "serious candidate" to take over as head coach at the completion of the current campaign. Kees van Wonderen, the current head coach, is expected to leave in the next few weeks.

According to the source, Heerenveen, who are presently ranked eleventh in the Eredivisie table, have already had talks with Van Persie's team. However, it's also mentioned that Feyenoord wants to keep Van Persie on board and is working to persuade him to stay. It has surfaced that Robin van Persie might be a candidate to take over as head coach of Heerenveen, a struggling team in the Eredivisie.

The 40-year-old striker, who previously played for Manchester United and Arsenal, gave up his career five years ago following the conclusion of the 2018–19 campaign after moving back to his native Netherlands to sign for Feyenoord. After that, he moved to become a coach for the Dutch behemoths, where he is currently in charge of their Under-18 squad.

Van Persie is presently pursuing his UEFA Pro Licence in order to fulfill his dream of becoming an outstanding manager. But as Dutch outlet AD reported, he might get the chance to take on his first managerial position sooner rather than later.

During the summer of 2022, Ten Hag first made contact with Van Persie regarding a possible coaching position at the club's academy.
