UEFA Champions League 2023-24 Match Ratings: Arsenal vs Bayern Munich quarter-final 1st leg

Arsenal faced off against Bayern Munich in the quarter-final 1st leg at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners got the lead from Bukayo Saka curling the ball into the net in the 12th minute of the game.

Arsenal faced off against Bayern Munich in the quarter-final 1st leg at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners got the lead from Bukayo Saka curling the ball into the net in the 12th minute of the game. Munich pulled one back from the communication mistake from goalkeeper David Raya and Gabriel Magalhães, helping a miss pass and Leroy Sane making the through ball for Serge Gnabry who scored against his former club. Later on Harry Kane scored from a soft foul on Sane by William Saliba inside the box,as the striker keeping a record of scoring against the North London club. Leandro Trossard's equaliser helped Arsenal for a slim light to fight in the 2nd leg.

Arsenal 

David Raya-5

He had a poor outing conceding two goals, with the first one being his fault as he came out early without a communication with the defenders. 

Jakub Kiwior- 4.5 

Kiwior had a tough time against Leroy Sane and Joshua Kimmich, and thus he was out of position during the first counter attack and was changed during the half time.  

Gabriel Magalhães-5

The Brazilian's miss pass led the set up Bayern's first goal. He won a couple of physical duels with Bayern' strikers and was decent on the night. 

William Saliba- 6

Ben White-6.6

Declan Rice- 6.5

The Englishman, who still performed admirably despite not being at his best on the night made some good interceptions in midfield.

Jorginho-6

He had a tough outing in the midfield and failed to have the control of the game as well. 

Martin Odegaard-8

Odegaard was the playmaker in the final third. Still had some nice touches in the attacking third and looked active throughout the game and lead the team from the front. 

Gabriel Martinelli-6.5

Got no chance in the first half, he couldn't get the better of Joshua Kimmich after the break, despite being more involed in the game. 

Kai Havertz-5

He tried to score and make some dribbles in the game and was unable to maintain his outstanding goal-scoring form. As he didn't make many significant contributions in the Bayern half.

 

Bukayo Saka-7.5

He gave Arsenal the advantage, and he was easily the most crucial member of Arsenal's forward line, causing Alphonso Davies some problems.

Trossard scored the equaliser and became the super sub for the side and created some good chances as well.

He made some good impact after coming off from the bench as he allowed Arsenal to overload central areas and put some crosses in the wings. 

Gabriel Jesus-7 



He came in as substitute and set up the equaliser for Arsenalin the last 15 minutes of the game. 

Bayern Munich

Manuel Neuer- 6 

Joshua Kimmich-7 

Kimmich had kept Martinelli quiet for the whole of the game, while Arsenal's greatest moments came on the opposite wing. He was threatning in the attack as well. 

Eric Dier-6.5 

Dier was shaken in the some moments of the game as he did some mistakes in the back. He let Saka play for the whole game and cut inside from the winger lead to the Arsenal's opener, was his fault of closing him down.

Mathias De Ligt- 7 

A strong performance against Arsenal's formidable attacking line, with the Dutchman clearing the team out danger on multiple occasions and kept Kai Havertz quiet for the game. 

Alphonso Davies- 7.5 

Davies struggled against Saka, despite making some good interceptions he was booked in the early stages and will miss the second leg of the quarter-final. 

Konard Laimer- 5.5 

He still helped Bayern dominate the midfield battle but could not control the tempo of the game and made some silly challenges in his own half. 

Leon Goretzka- 7.5

He made some crucial defensive plays, set up Gnabry's equaliser, and broke past the Arsenal midfield on multiple occasions, trying to shoot from distance. 

Leroy Sane-7.5  

The Bayern forward delivered an electrifying display and was a continuous threat to Arsenal's defence. Created the second and stretched the home defenders throughout the game.

Jamal Musiala- 6.5

He did his best to use his dribbling ability in the Arsenal final third, but it was ultimately a subdued performance by his standards.  standards.

Serge Gnabry-7 

The former Arsenal man had dream comeback at the Emirates scoring the opener, but unfortunately taken off due to an injury in the 2nd half of the game. 

Harry Kane- 7

Kane made a dream comeback to north London, scoring a penalty and making some wonderful passes for his teamates and winning some ariel duels as well.
