Kylian Mbappe's name has been implicated by Swedish media in the opening of a probe into a suspected rape inside a hotel in Stockholm. In announcing that the issue is being investigated after an official complaint, a Swedish prosecutor decided to refrain from naming any suspects.

In a statement, Sweden's Prosecution Authority said, “In response to media reports about a suspected rape in Stockholm, the prosecutor can confirm that a criminal report has been submitted to the police.”

Kylian Mbappe is allegedly the subject of the investigation after his recent trip to Scandinavia, which took place during his time away from Real Madrid duties after he was left out of France's most recent UEFA Nations League squad, according to Swedish publications Aftonbladet and Expressen as well as public broadcaster SVT.

Expressen, which has previously stated that Kylian Mbappe has become "reasonably suspected" of both rape and sexual assault, reports that police have confiscated clothing as evidence. Since no official charges have been filed yet, there are currently no suspects in detention.

Is Kylian Mbappe involved in the rape case at the hotel?

As the French appeals tribunal gets ready for the hearing of his claims to €55 million (£46 million/$60 million) in unpaid incentives from his former club Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappe has responded to the rumors he is spreading on social media. He said, “FAKE NEWS!!!!. It's becoming so predictable, on the eve of the hearing, as if by chance.”

Kylian Mbappe's crew denied having "any knowledge of a legal complaint made against him" after being approached by the French news agency AFP.  In an earlier statement issued on Monday, they had stated, “Today, a new slanderous rumour is starting to spread across the web from the Swedish media Aftonbladet. These accusations are completely false and irresponsible, and their propagation is unacceptable.” The statement went on to say that “all necessary legal action will be taken to re-establish the truth”.
