Real Madrid is exploring the possibility of signing a promising young midfielder, often referred to as the “new Pedri,” according to reports from AS, which claims insights from anonymous sources. Interestingly, Los Blancos had previously overlooked this talent when he was just starting and did not cut a trial with the club.

FC Barcelona's acquired Pedri from Las Palmas for an initial fee of $5.2 million (€5 million) in 2019 has since been recognized as a remarkable success. Earlier, Pedri openly stated he attended trials for Real Madrid but was not selected, with the club asserting that he wouldn't reach professional levels. He also pointed out how strange it felt to wear Real Madrid's jersey, given his lifelong loyalty to Barcelona.

"I went to try out with Real Madrid but they told me I wasn't at the right level. I thank those who told me that I wouldn't make it, now I am in the team that I have always loved," Pedri stated.

Bartomeu's reckless spending on players like Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele, and Philippe Coutinho, fueled by the Neymar transfer funds, plunged the club into a precarious financial situation. Fast forward nearly five years, and Barcelona has started to regain its footing, both on and off the pitch. Pedri is currently showcasing the best version of himself under Hansi Flick, demonstrating resilience after overcoming his injuries.

Real Madrid eyes 'New Pedri'

It comes as no surprise that Real Madrid is eager to sign a young talent labelled the new Pedri. According to AS, another Tenerife native and midfielder, Aaron Martin, is firmly on Real Madrid's radar, along with several other clubs, as they work to bolster their squad.

Martin is viewed as a crucial addition who can make significant contributions to Castilla in the short term and become an asset for the first team in the long run. Martin presents an incredible opportunity, available for a mere $2.1 million—less than half of what Barcelona committed to for their number eight, Pedri.

Lauded for his exceptional game vision, Martin impressed with the precision of his right foot and has made a swift transition from the youth team to the senior squad, having played only a few matches in the reserves.
