Real Madrid is reportedly exploring the possibility of changing leagues amid the recent controversy surrounding Jude Bellingham's red card.
The situation arose during Madrid's recent match against Osasuna, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Referee José Luis Munuera Montero issued a straight red card to Bellingham, claiming that the young midfielder used an explicit insult towards him in the 39th minute. Bellingham, however, asserts that his words were taken out of context and contends that his expression of frustration was directed at himself rather than at the referee. The referee felt Bellingham abused him in English, saying, "F**k off."
Real Madrid wants to quit Spanish Top Division
Under mounting criticism regarding the officiating standards in La Liga, Spanish outlet Sport has revealed that Real Madrid is actively exploring an unprecedented departure from Spain's top division. The club is setting its sights on Italy's Serie A, France’s Ligue 1, and Germany’s Bundesliga as potential new destinations.
The notion of Madrid exiting La Liga is undoubtedly sensational, but the reality of executing such a move is inherently complex. Approval from FIFA, UEFA, and the governing body of any new league would be mandatory for this transition. The regulatory framework governing such a shift is intricate, and no club of Madrid’s prominence has ever undertaken a move of this magnitude before.
Bellingham’s red card is the most recent incident in a series of events that have impacted Madrid this season. Earlier this month, the club submitted a formal complaint to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) regarding refereeing decisions after their 1-0 loss to Espanyol.
