After six years as the coach of Real Madrid Castilla, Raúl González announced that he will be stepping down at the end of the current season. The club has already communicated this decision and has named Álvaro Arbeloa, the current coach of Juvenil A, as his successor. Speculation about Raúl's departure had been circulating for some time, and the change is expected to take place in approximately eight months, once the season concludes.

Raul Gonzalez will not leave 'Real Madrid'

Raúl will not be leaving Real Madrid despite stepping down from the Castilla bench. The club is committed to retaining the former captain, and his specific role within the organization is still being decided. Potential options include him joining the first-team coaching staff, utilizing his close ties with Carlo Ancelotti, or assuming a leadership role within the youth academy alongside Santiago Solari and Manu Fernández.

Raúl has been presented with several managerial offers from other clubs, but he has decided to stay at Madrid, where he feels appreciated and satisfied with his role in nurturing young talent. His strong connection with the club has played a vital role in his development as a coach, commencing his managerial journey with the Cadete B in the 2018-19 season. During his tenure with Castilla, Raúl has achieved 71 victories in 178 matches, and he notably led Juvenil A to victory in the Youth League in 2020. In the 2022-23 season, he came close to securing promotion to the Segunda División, narrowly missing out in the playoff final against Eldense.

Raul's strong presence as a player at Madrid sometimes led to disagreements with Perez. Perez has served as club president in two separate periods, from 2000-2006 and again since 2009. In 2021, leaked conversations from Perez were published by the Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, in which he seemed to hold Raul responsible for his resignation in February 2006. This was during a period when Madrid was on track for a third consecutive season without major silverware.
