French superstar Kylian Mbappe has not had a great year so far in 2024. His performance in the UEFA Champions League semifinal, where PSG was eliminated by Borussia Dortmund, did not meet expectations. Similarly, his display at UEFA Euro 2024 was underwhelming.

The difficulties persisted for Mbappé during the international break as well. Despite his efforts, France suffered a 3-1 defeat to Italy in their UEFA Nations League opener.

Pundit's opinion on Mbappé's below-par performance

Many different opinions have emerged regarding the struggles of the player in question. One pundit, Kévin Diaz, has suggested that the player's desire to imitate the Brazilian magician Neymar Jr., Mbappe's former teammate at PSG, may be contributing to his difficulties on the field.

According to Diaz, the player has been attempting complex skills and passes reminiscent of Neymar's playing style instead of relying on his own strengths. Diaz emphasized the importance of sticking to what one knows and does well, especially when lacking confidence, echoing the advice of football legend Thierry Henry.

“When he’s on the ball, he tries some challenging moves,” Diaz said on After Foot RMC.

“Ever since he played with Neymar, it seems like he’s been trying to copy him with complex techniques. Sure, Kylian Mbappé has great technical skills, but when you’re not feeling confident, it’s like Thierry Henry says: just stick to what you know and do it well," he added

The French forward failed to make a mark in his first three matches for Real Madrid. He finally managed to find the net against Real Betis. With the Champions League around the corner, Mbappe has the opportunity of a lifetime to prove that he is still the best in the world at present times.
