Uruguay's all-time leading goal scorer, Luis Suarez bids farewell to the national football team. In his illustrious 17-year career, Luis Suárez scored 69 goals in 143 appearances for Uruguay.

In his video message, Suarez's Inter Miami teammate, Lionel Messi, began with a lighthearted reference to a long-shared inside joke 'Hello, fatty'. Messi took the opportunity to send this video on his special day for him, his family, the people of Uruguay, and football fans everywhere.

Messi praised and admired Suarez's dedication to his national team and country. Messi said that he felt fortunate to have been by his side and that he understands the difficulty of the decision Suarez had to make, knowing how much he loved playing for Uruguay.

Suarez cemented his legacy for the coming generations. Messi is hopeful that Uruguay's number nine who will continue to play club football for some more years. Messi rejoiced over the fact that the duo are back to playing together on the same team in Inter Miami.

Neymar also expressed his best wishes to the departing Uruguayan with a smile, while the crowd celebrated the remarkable legacy of a striker who few can surpass. Fans fondly recalled the electrifying performances of Messi, Suarez, and Neymar as they graced the grand stage during their time at Barcelona. The trio of Messi, Neymar and Suarez was popularly called MSN.

A frustrating draw for Uruguay

Paraguay managed to salvage a draw against Uruguay in the South American World Cup qualifier. Uruguay despite enjoying a healthy 65% possession could not score a winner. Uruguay's Talisman, Suarez could not find his 70th career goal on his last dance with the national team. 

As a result, Uruguay now stands second in the 10-team round-robin qualifying tournament with 14 points, 4 behind table leaders Argentina. The top six teams in the South American Qualifiers get a direct qualification to the 2026 World Cup with the seventh-placed team qualifying for a playoff.
