Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed that while the current team may not resemble the old Manchester City that every team feared this season, he was pleased with their ability to navigate a tense finish and secure a vital 1-0 win against Tottenham.

Erling Haaland, back from injury, made his mark by scoring his 20th Premier League goal of the season just 12 minutes into the match. However, he did miss several other opportunities in the first half, which kept the game quite competitive as they went into halftime. Spurs capitalized on the situation, but Wilson Odobert squandered two critical chances, and Pape Sarr saw his goalbound shot thwarted by Josko Gvardiol.

Just when it seemed Haaland had sealed the victory in the fourth minute of stoppage time with a second goal, a VAR check lasting overturned it due to handball. As time ran out, Sarr wasted an excellent opportunity, allowing City to bounce back from their Sunday loss to Liverpool and reclaim fourth place.

Pep Guardiola stated that the current team cannot be compared to the previous Manchester City squad, as that team was exceptionally strong. However, he expressed confidence that they would return to that level in the future.

“Never this season we will be the old Manchester City! The old City was too good... BUT, we will be back,” Pep Guardiola said in post match interview.

Guardiola showered praise on January signing Abdukodir Khusanov for his composed defensive performance, following a shaky debut against Chelsea last month. He also reflected on Haaland’s disallowed goal. Pep further shared that City's primary goal for the remainder of the season is to secure a spot in the Champions League.

“The Champions League spot would be a good result for us this season,” Pep added.
