With questions looming over Pep Guardiola's long-term future at Manchester City, the topic of legacies took centre stage. Guardiola has surpassed his tenures at both Barcelona and Bayern Munich combined during his nine-season stay at the Etihad. In this tenure, the gaffer won the Premier League six times.

With his contract set to expire at the end of this season, Guardiola has stated that he is still considering his options. The upcoming months are going to be a hell of a ride that may shape the future of both Guardiola and the club.

Guardiola's motivation to continue his work

Guardiola emphasized that his motivation to continue as a gaffer didn't stem from the pursuit of becoming the greatest manager of all time. Instead, he prioritized the influence of the coaches who have helped him grow and the fulfilling aspects of his role.

He genuinely enjoys going to work each day, relishing the opportunity to communicate important messages to his players and prepare for engaging training sessions. This passion is the cornerstone of his continued commitment to management. He recognizes that the moment he no longer feels this enthusiasm, it will be time for him to step away and retire.

"I like my job. I love what I do. In terms of titles, it's done," he said.

"But I still like coming here every morning to work. I love it, thinking of the messages I have to tell the players and the training sessions I have to prepare. Still, I like it and this is the main reason I'm a manager. When I don't feel this I will not be a manager, I will not train. That's for sure." - he added.

He shared that Jurgen Klopp has contributed to his growth as a manager, Jose Mourinho has influenced him positively, and Mikel Arteta is currently enhancing his coaching skills. He emphasizes that striving to be the absolute best isn't the ultimate goal.

Guardiola's admiration for the Greatest gaffer

Regarding who he considers the very best, he holds a deep appreciation for the remarkable work of the all-time great across town, Sir Alex Ferguson.

"Sir Alex Ferguson is the best: for the [amount of] time, for changing teams and still winning trophies. Being close to one of the most important managers of all time is an incredible honour, for me and all the staff and players I had." - he said.
