FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta and Sporting Director Deco have taken significant strides, according to a report from MARCA. The Spanish newspaper shared on Wednesday afternoon that the club has successfully reached contract agreements with Ronald Araujo and Pedri, both of whom were slated to become free agents on June 30, 2026.
Araujo joined FC Barcelona from Boston River in 2018 and quickly rose to prominence by joining the B team. He made his senior debut in November of the following year, although it ended on a challenging note with a red card during a brief appearance against Sevilla.
Since then, Araujo has developed into one of the most promising centre-backs in the game, catching the attention of top clubs such as Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
In the current transfer window, it was evident that the Uruguayan's future lay away from Catalonia with Juventus. Italian outlets had earlier confirmed that he had reached an agreement to join the Italian club, and Catalan journalist Joan Fontes had stated that Araujo informed his fellow captains of his intent to depart from Hansi Flick's first team.
In a surprising turn of events, discussions facilitated by Deco, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, have been pivotal in convincing the 25-year-old to remain with Barcelona until mid-2030, according to SPORT. In contrast, Pedri's situation has been considerably more straightforward, as he has never expressed any desire to leave the club he has supported since his childhood in Tenerife.
Making his way into Ronald Koeman's first team in 2020, he signed a five-year extension in 2021 and is expected to do so again in the coming days. Securing contracts for both players will certainly bring relief to Culers, and the board needs to focus on finalizing agreements with Gavi and Frenkie de Jong, especially if the Dutchman remains at the club this summer.
