Paolo Maldini is one of the greatest centre-backs of all-time and has played against some of the greatest attackers. Paolo Maldini retired in 2009, however his son Daniel is currently playing in Serie A after moving permanently from AC Milan to Monza this summer.

In a recent interview, Paolo Maldini spoke about how the game has changed since the turn of the century. He said that strikers like Luis Suarez are being put in the same category as Ronaldo which is not fair at all in his opinion.

The former AC Milan centre-back said, "It makes me both laugh and cry when I hear young people say that Luis Suárez is the best 9 in history. I, who played against Ronaldo, can't imagine him diving, provoking opponents or biting adversaries."

“The league is not highly rated” : Paolo Maldini on Serie A

Paolo Maldini thinks he requires ‘rest time’ and believes AC Milan, Juventus, Roma as well as Napoli are going to battle Inter for the Serie A crown this season. Legendary Italian player Maldini, cited by Milannews, had a conversation with Italian journalists from Coverciano on Monday.

The first query concerned Italy's championship competition in Serie A. He said, “The league is not highly rated, but technically, tactically, and in terms of knowledge, it’s in the top three [in Europe].”

He added, “Inter are the best-equipped team, then there have been many changes among the opponents, who will need a bit of time to put the team together. Milan finished second last season and are a candidate. Juventus brought reinforcements, like Napoli and Roma. These are the teams fighting for the title.”

Maldini was fired by AC Milan prior to the opening of the summer transfer market in 2023, although the former defender seems content to remain at home. He said, “No, the end of my career was long and demanding. The same goes for the director career. Rest time can be beneficial.”
