Palmeiras President refuses to sign Neymar
The Brazilian superstar is currently sidelined in Saudi Arabia as he continues to recover from knee ligament damage that has kept him off the field for over a year. There are discussions surrounding the potential termination of his contract in January 2025.
As he approaches free agency, Neymar has garnered interest from several clubs across North and South America. A transfer to Inter Miami could reunite him with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, creating a formidable partnership in MLS. Additionally, there has been significant conversation about a possible return to Santos, where the club is excited about the prospect of bringing back their legendary player.
Santos is ready to welcome Neymar
The doors at Santos will always remain open for Neymar, asserted the club president. Marcelo Teixeira made it clear during an ESPN interview that he won't dismiss any possibilities regarding a return of their prodigal son. While he can't publicly commit to a timeline for January or June, he emphasized that anything could transpire. Rest assured, once there are developments, all parties involved will be promptly informed.
Teixeira mentioned that Neymar is eager to rekindle his competitive spirit as he prepares for the upcoming World Cup finals.
“You can see his joy, he himself says he is at home here. This is a favourable and positive factor for Santos, for him and for Brazilian football. He is happy, and joyful. I believe that, for Neymar, if this happens, it could be the best preparation for the FIFA World Cup,” said Santos President.
Palmeiras are not keen on signing the injury-prone star
On the other hand, Palmeiras, unlike Santos, is focused on nurturing its promising young talents and is not currently looking to bring in the Brazilian star. As the reigning domestic champions for the past two seasons, Palmeiras is committed to defending its titles this season and is currently positioned second in Brazil's league, just 4 points behind Botafogo.
Leila Pereira, the president of Palmeiras, has clarified that Neymar will not be joining the club as they are focusing on players that better fit their current strategy. She highlighted that Neymar’s age, contract expectations, and recent injury history do not align with the club's vision.
Palmeiras is committed to investing in athletes who can contribute right away, especially as Neymar is currently on the mend from a muscular injury that will keep him off the field for the rest of the year.
