On this day in 2015, Tottenham finalized the £22 million acquisition of South Korean striker Son Heung-min from Bayer Leverkusen. Son signed a five-year contract with the north London club and was given the number seven shirt. The 23-year-old, who joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2013 from Hamburg, has scored 29 goals in 87 games.

With three goals in the Champions League the previous season, he led the Bundesliga team in scoring. With Son's arrival, Tottenham's hopes of signing Saido Berahino came to a stop. They have previously had two bids for the West Brom forward turned down. He has signed a contract that will last until 2020, and the deal is allegedly for £22 million, subject to international clearance and a work visa.

With the acquisition of Heung-min Son, Tottenham Hotspur may put a stop to their chase of the England Under-21 international, as manager Mauricio Pochettino has compared his team's efforts to a strained romantic relationship. With 44 appearances for South Korea, including one against Algeria during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Son is a regular at the international level, having scored 11 goals.

Son Heung-min became Tottenham Hotspur's fifth signing

"I'm looking forward to going there and performing for the Spurs fans as soon as possible," said Son, who will wear the number seven shirt for his new club. "Bold and daring - this is how I like to try to play," as BBC Son Heung-min stated after joining Tottenham Hotspur.

Along with the Cameroonian striker Clinton Njie and the defenders Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, and Kevin Wimmer, he becomes Tottenham's fifth summer addition. Harry Kane, who hasn't been able to find the target this season, will feel less pressure now that Son has arrived at White Hart Lane.

Meanwhile, Son Heung-Min has now appeared in 410 games for the club and scored 164 goals. Currently, he is captain of the club since Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris left the club.
