Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim provided insights into Marcus Rashford's absence from the team's Carabao Cup match against Tottenham.
After being sidelined during the recent derby victory over Manchester City, Amorim decided to rest Rashford for the quarterfinal encounter. The 39-year-old coach explained that this choice was made to support the engineer’s overall readiness and ensure he is at his best for upcoming challenges.
Amorim's talks about Rashford's future at Manchester United
When questioned about Rashford's absence for the Tottenham match.
"Selection. I chose the players I felt were ready to cope with the demands of playing a strong game. I try to visualise all week and then choose my players. Just selection. It's always the same with every player [in terms of the selection process]. Not just Marcus. In the end, I have to make a selection, and I did it," Amorim said.
“Of course, he is a Manchester United player. Tomorrow we have training; Marcus Rashford will be there, preparing for the next game, and you will see the selection,” Amorim said.
It is evident that the situation is escalating. Just days prior, Rashford made it clear he was "ready for a new challenge," strongly indicating his intention to pursue an exit from United. Despite Amorim's claims that the Red Devils perform better with Rashford on the field, another exclusion from the squad concretely suggests that his time at Old Trafford is nearing its end.
In the Carabao Cup quarterfinal fixture against Tottenham Hotspur, the hosts edged past Manchester United 4-3. Although the Red Devils lost the match, they played a great game and closed down a 3-0 deficit to 3-2 with Joshua Zirkzee, Diallo, and Evans getting to the scoresheet for Manchester United.
