No Silver lining for Jakub Blaszczykowski, Dortmund Veteran reveals he threw his UCL runners-up medal in trash

Former Polish International, Jakub Blaszczykowski revealed that he threw his UCL runners-up medal in the trash following Dortmund's loss to Bayern. His wife kept it safe and returned it to him after 10 long years.

Dortmund veterans Jakub Blaszczykowski and Lukasz Piszczek will bid farewell to the sport during a celebratory match. Blaszczykowski played for BVB from 2007 to 2016. The Polish player participated in 253 competitive matches for Borussia, scoring 32 goals and providing 52 assists. Following his time with BVB, Blaszczykowski played for VfL Wolfsburg and Wisla Krakow before retiring last summer.

Jakub threw his Medal away 

In a recent interview, the Polish veteran footballer revealed he had thrown his 2013 Champions League runner-up medal away in the trash following his team's defeat against Bayern Munich.  

His better half, that is, his wife, picked up his medal without telling him and kept it safe with her. 

In 2022, when the Polish remembered his medal while catching a glimpse of his memorabilia, he enquired his wife about it. His wife finally returned his much-deserved medal to him after 10 long years. It was a moment of joy and elation for Jakub.

Jakub Błaszczykowski stated :-

"After losing the 2013 Champions League final, I threw the medal in the trash. My wife picked it up but didn’t tell me. 2 years ago, I looked at my memorabilia and asked her, Where’s my medal?" - He added 

The Tale Of 2013 UCL Final 

The 2013 UEFA Champions League final was an exciting all-German encounter between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. It was a high-stakes match for both teams, with Dortmund aiming to win their first title since 1997 and Bayern looking to reclaim the trophy after 12 years. 

Dortmund came out with an aggressive start, testing Bayern's defense with several close attempts. However, Bayern's goalkeeper, Neuer, showcased an impressive performance, making crucial saves to keep his team in the game.

Bayern eventually got the opening goal on the hour mark with Robben. Dortmund equalised seven minutes later when Ilkay Gündogan converted a penalty. 

In the last minute of the game, Robben once again found the back of the net, bringing a moment of joy to the Bayern team and fans across the globe. Bayern Munich won 2-1 in the finals.
