'No Haaland, No problem for City' - Fans react as Manchester City clinch stunning victory over Aston Villa

With this spectacular win and a convincing performance from the Manchester City players, the team was able to put pressure on the league leaders.

Manchester City hosted high-flying Aston Villa in the 30th matchday of the English Premier League 2023-24 season. This is a big game for the hosts if they want to post a challenge to the current league leaders, Liverpool. It’s a huge game for Aston Villa as well since they are posting a challenge to qualify for next year’s UEFA Champions League. 

The game started well for the Citizens as they were on the front foot and were looking for the opening goal of the game. The Pep Guardiola tactics were working well for the side and this helped them to be on the attack more often than not. Unai Emery and his team were happy to use the counter attacks to their advantage.

The home team were rewarded for their splendid efforts as they were able to get the opening goal. Rodri slotted home the opener after a brilliant pass from the right flank from Belgium winger Jeremy Doku. 

However, the Villains came back into the game with a brilliant passing move involving Morgan Rogers and Jhon Duran. The latter found the back of the net which ended the move and was able to open the scoring for his side. But late in the second half, Phil Foden scored from a free-kick to put his side ahead at half-time.

How did the second half between Manchester City and Aston Villa pan out?

To no one’s surprise, Manchester City started off on a positive note and were on the attack more often than not. Villa had no answer to the brisk passing made by the home team. The hosts were also rewarded for their excellent playmaking skills as they got another goal through Phil Foden to extend their lead to two. 

Phil Foden got his richly deserved hat-trick with a stunning finish from outside the box. The game was then and it was a matter of time to get the formalities over with. In the end, the game ended with the scoreline showing 4-1 in favour of Manchester City at the Etihad stadium in the English Premier League.
