Neymar and Al-Hilal have mutually agreed to part ways, marking a new chapter for both the player and the club. The Brazilian superstar failed to make a major impact in the Saudi League during his time with the Saudi Pro League champions.
Neymar's dissapointing tenure at Al-Hilal
After sustaining a knee injury in a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October 2023, Neymar has worked hard to regain his form but has found it difficult to reach his previous highs. In light of these circumstances, Al-Hilal and Neymar Jr have decided to terminate their contractual relationship, paving the way for fresh opportunities for both parties.
Neymar has had a brief stint with Al-Hilal, participating in just seven matches following his transfer from Paris St-Germain in August 2023, a deal valued at up to £86 million. Recent reports from Brazilian media suggest that he may be considering a return to his childhood club, Santos, which he left in 2013 to join Barcelona. During his career, Neymar made headlines with his record transfer to PSG for €222 million in August 2017 after his successful time at Barça, where he established himself as one of the top players in the world.
“Al-Hilal Club Company and Neymar Jr have agreed to terminate their contractual relationship by mutual consent,” the club posted on X.
Neymar recorded one goal and two assists for Al-Hilal, with his contract set to expire following the club's participation in the summer’s FIFA Club World Cup. Al-Hilal issued a statement expressing gratitude to Neymar for his contributions during his time with the club.
Neymar made his return to the pitch in October and played his most recent match in November. In an interview on January 17, he confirmed that he is seriously considering a return to Brazil.
Santos executives have consistently expressed their desire for Neymar to come back. He is determined to secure more playing time to adequately prepare for the upcoming World Cup, which may be his final opportunity to claim the title.
