As the new captain of Newcastle United, Bruno Guimaraes is nearly guaranteed to stay with the team as per reports. On Saturday, with vice captain Kieran Trippier starting on the bench due to injury to skipper Jamaal Lascelles, the Brazilian donned the armband for the first time in a competitive match against Southampton.

Since joining the team from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, Trippier has captained the side in most games; however, Guimaraes will now take over that role. Eddie Howe is of the opinion that the midfielder will flourish in his newfound responsibilities, and he is rumored to have desired clarification over Guimaraes' permanent captaincy.

Jamal Lascelles has been elevated to the newly formed role of "club captain" and Trippier will stay in his vice-captaincy role and be a member of the leadership team alongside Jacob Murphy, Dan Burn, and Callum Wilson.

Will Keiran Trippier stay at the club beyond this season?

Trippier's future on Tyneside is still up in the air due to interest from both domestic and international teams, but Howe needs him to stay because the staff is certain that the England player will be a leader whether or not he wears an armband. Manchester City, on the other hand, is fond of Guimaraes, and insiders are optimistic that he will remain at St James' Park past the transfer deadline on Friday.

The 26-year-old has expressed his joy at leading the squad in the 1-0 victory against the Saints, and the armband he received in exchange for his service to the team shows how dedicated he is to the group. Due to a persistent knee ailment, Lascelles is still "months" away from returning to action. Meanwhile, Trippier played 45 minutes on Monday night for Newcastle's Under-21s against Sunderland in an attempt to increase his fitness.
