The Premier League matchup between Chelsea and Manchester City on Sunday will not feature Rodri, according to manager Pep Guardiola of Manchester City. In an attempt to capture the Premier League title for a fifth time in a row in the 2024–2025 season, Pep Guardiola’s team clashes with Chelsea on Sunday afternoon in West London.

Due to serious double injuries, Rodri as well as Oscar Bobb will miss Manchester City's FA Community Shield matchup with Manchester United this coming Saturday. They were both injured last Saturday. Due to a hamstring injury sustained during Spain's triumph against England in the European Championship final in Berlin last month, Rodri was substituted off the field at halftime.

Before the international break, Manchester City has games against Chelsea, Ipswich Town, and West Ham. Rodri will also serve a one-match UEFA ban due to a charge about Spain's celebration of winning the European Championship.

The former Bayern Munich manager had his first press conference ahead of the season opener on Sunday. He said, “No chance [for Chelsea]. He didn’t train. I didn’t see him yet. I think he feels good, but we will see when he starts to move his body how he feels.”

“We are looking forward to seeing him again soon” : Pep Guardiola

The injury to Rodri is Manchester City's second major setback in terms of health before the new season begins. A few months ago, the forward Oscar Bobb broke his leg during training in the City Football Academy, putting him out of commission. Oscar Bobb, who made an impression during Manchester City's preseason, will miss several club and national team games during his first two to four months out of the game.

The former FC Barcelona manager added, "It was in the training session. Unfortunately, he had a big impact and got injured. He is having surgery this afternoon. Hopefully, it will go well and he will be back in 3/4 months. We are so sad for him - not because of his incredible pre-season, that doesn’t matter - but because any time there is a long injury. We are looking forward to seeing him again soon."
