Lionel Messi is arguably the greatest footballer of all time. He currently plays in Major League Soccer (MLS) for a club named Inter Miami. The 36-year-old footballer has won every possible individual and team trophy during his illustrious career. The Argentine World Cup winner after winning the most prestigious trophy back in 2022 in Qatar, left Europe to enjoy his life in the USA and play at a lower level. He has surpassed several records and has made some to his name.

The former FC Barcelona footballer played his last game for the Blaugranes on this day back in 2021 against Celta Vigo. The match ended in a 2-1 loss for the Catalonian club, and the fans did not expect it to be his last game as well. He is the greatest player ever to wear the famous jersey and probably any football jersey in the world. The footballer made his debut for the club back in 2003 under Frank Rjikaard and played for 17 seasons, setting a club record with his 778 appearances, and scoring an incredible 672 goals. He has the record for most goals for a single club.

Messi owes a farewell game from FC Barcelona

Messi left the club in tears, with 10 leagues, four Champions League and three Club World Cups, and he also won the Golden Shoe as the top goalscorer in Europe on six different occasions. Due to Covid restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, there were no fans in the stadium to witness his final game at Camp Nou. Fans were left shell-shocked after his decision to leave the club.

He joined Paris Saint-Germain after leaving Spain and spent two years with the club before shifting to America. LM 10 is also the country's leading goal scorer and has been presently playing in the MLS with his team Miami at the top of the table. Recently the former Barca footballer and now director Deco said that Messi will "definitely play" a farewell game at Barcelona, as the club plans for a game for the legend during the 2025-26 season when the renovated Spotify Camp Nou opens for the fans.
