Mikel Arteta discloses the reasons for Arsenal's failure
In a recent interview with Sky Sports, the Spanish manager expressed that injuries and red cards were, in his opinion, the key factors that influenced the title race. He also acknowledged Newcastle United as a potential contender for the championship in the next season.
"Red cards and injuries—absolutely. Would we have been much closer? For me, the answer is unquestionably yes," Arteta said in a recent media interview while disclosing the reasons of Arsenal's failure this season.
The Gunners were plagued by injuries this season as several players had to be benched during an important phase of the season. Amongst the injured football stars who missed most of the action this season were Takehiro Tomiyasu, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhães, Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, and Jurrien Timber. The injury of so many key starting players ravaged the team in the middle phase of the season, where they got knocked out of several domestic competitions, including the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. The Gunners will look to make an impressive comeback next season the backed by some solid signings in the upcoming summer transfer window.
