Marc-André ter Stegen Bids Farewell to Legendary German goalkeeper

Barcelona's Goalkeeper Marc André Ter Stegen bid farewell to his national team Compatriot Manuel Neuer , on his retirement from International Football.

On 21st August 2024, Germany's former captain and veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer decided to hang up his gloves and announced his retirement from International Football after rendering 15 years of Goalkeeping service to his country. 

His most significant achievement with the national team includes winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where he was the best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

In his 15-year-long illustrious career, Neuer was the centre of many iconic matches and moments. Neuer led the German team from 2016 up until 2023. Germany's last man of defence also represented the country in 4 EUROS, his last match being the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 against Spain, where Germany lost 2-1. Neuer had an impressive 51 clean sheets out of a total of 124 matches he played for the German national team.

Marc André Ter Stegen, who was in Neuer's shadow for all these years in German National Team, reacted to his retirement as he posted a congratulatory message for his rival cum compatriot Neuer and mentioned that Neuer will remain a German footballing legend for eternity.

Ter Stegen wrote, "Congratulations, Manuel, on your career with the German national team, You will forever remain a world champion and a legend in German football.”

The 32-year-old Barcelona's Goal Guardian is expected to be Germany's first-choice goalkeeper shortly. Ter Stegen will be looking to prove his worth to the German Side after being the second to Neuer since last decade. He is going to be Germany's first-choice goalkeeper in the upcoming Fifa World Cup Qualifiers and Fifa World Cup 2026.
