Barcelona's goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen will be sidelined for months due to a knee injury sustained during Sunday's 5-1 La Liga win at Villarreal, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Barçelona's gaffer, Hansi Flick described the injury as "huge and serious" but could not provide a specific timeframe.

According to RAC1, Ter Stegen could be out for up to eight months, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the season.

Barçelona's Gaffer's Take on Ter Stegen's Injury

Barçelona's gaffer, Hanse Flick, acknowledged that Ter Stegen's injury was serious and awaited the diagnosis. He praised Villareal for their performance on the pitch and expressed satisfaction with his team's 5-goal score. However, the day ended on a sad note with Ter Stegen's injury. Flick commended his team's attitude and emphasized the need to adapt to injuries as they occur. He reassured that the team has capable substitutes ready to step in for the injured players.

Flick emphasized the need to protect every player on the side. Barcelona's Teen Prodigy Yamal was subjected to some rough tackles towards the tail end of the fixture and the gaffer praised Yamal for the quality he adds to the side but preferred not to speak about the rough tackles until he analysed the full fixture.

The manager also complimented Lewandowski and Raphina who were amongst the goal scorers in the match against Villarreal. He believed his team to be very compact both in terms of attack and defence and to be full of players who love to play for each other.

"This injury makes us sad," Flick said in a news conference.

"We have to accept [the injuries]. Marc today, it was an accident. It's really tough, but we have enough players. I am really proud of the team and how they played. Everyone who came in did fantastic. It was a big win for us." - Flick added.

Bitter-sweet Victory for Barcelona

During the first half, Ter Stegen unfortunately collapsed after claiming a corner. It was immediately clear that he would not be able to continue, and Iñaki Peña replaced him.

Although the injury to the German international was a setback, it did not overshadow an otherwise positive day for Barça. The team scored five times, securing their sixth win in six La Liga games this season and maintaining a four-point lead at the top of the table.

Ter Stegen now joins the list of injured players at Barcelona that includes the likes of - Ronald Araújo, Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Fermín López, and Dani Olmo, all of whom are still out of action.
