FC Barcelona wanted to start the league portion of their 2024–25 UEFA Champions League campaign strongly, but they have suffered a significant setback in their chances of achieving so. They are down to 10 men in the early going against Monaco.

The only player who has changed from the team that beat Girona over the weekend is Eric Garcia. In Barcelona's last third, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen gave AS Monaco possession. The 24-year-old was compelled to foul on the brink of the penalty box, leaving the official with no option but to call a foul.

Ter Stegen made a terrible mistake by trying to make a pass when he had multiple other possibilities that were superior. Eric has accepted the consequences for it, and FC Barcelona will undoubtedly struggle to get a win out of this one. It will undoubtedly be an extremely lengthy evening. The analyst conjectured during commentary that official Allard Lindhout had given the incorrect colour card.

Eric Garcia set for a return to Girona in January transfer window

Eric García's circumstances with FC Barcelona have not been ideal. Even though he is a member of the starting lineup, he has only played 84 minutes in four LaLiga games so far this season. García seemed to have lost the room he needed to reach his full ability in the FC Barcelona defence due to increased competition; therefore, going back to Girona, a team he had consistency with and where he was at his best, seems like the best option.

García appears to be the perfect pick to reinforce Girona's defence as they continue to look for players to add to their roster that fit within their sports vision. The club is betting on him again, hoping for a permanent transfer, because of the good impressions he made during his loan period. In contrast, the player would be prepared to make the move if he didn't receive additional playing time at Barcelona.
