Barcelona's flawless start to the season has been marred by injuries, with Fermín López being the latest to succumb to the issue. After returning from a slight hamstring injury during his time with the Spain under-21 team, Fermín suffered a thigh problem on his first day back in training. There is concern at Barça that Fermín could follow a similar path to Pedri, who experienced consecutive muscle injuries after participating in two summer tournaments for Spain three years ago, just as Fermín did this year. The club is committed to handling López's recovery with utmost care to prevent a challenging journey for the young midfielder.

Barcelona's Gaffer takes the responsibility

Hansi Flick took full responsibility for Fermín’s injury during a press conference on Wednesday. He admitted to not asking the Spanish Federation to keep Fermín out of the squad for the September international window, which led to the player's injury.

It's commendable to see a coach owning up to their mistake rather than placing blame elsewhere. Calling up Fermín when he clearly needed rest was unnecessary and Flick could have rightfully pointed fingers at the Spanish Federation. It was a clear case where common sense should have prevailed, and Fermín deserved a full break during the first international break of the season.

The Gaffer feels the need to take care of the players

Hansi Flick, the Barcelona Gaffer, expressed his regret over Fermin's injury and took full responsibility. He acknowledged that better communication with the Under-21 manager could have prevented the situation and emphasized the importance of player care. Flick also assured that he would make every effort to protect the team's players in the future.

“It is a shame because he’s played two tournaments and what I can say is that I feel a bit responsible, I could have spoken with the under-21 coach, but I cannot make excuses. I feel I am to blame for his situation because he’s a player we needed badly right now, he can score goals and is very professional. When I saw him at the doctor’s it wasn’t pleasant. I felt sorry for him. We have to take care of the players.” - Hansi Flick said.
