Throughout the UEFA Euro 2024, German custodian Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has served as the FC Barcelona’s starting goalie did not play even a single minute in the prestigious tournament.

Prior to the European Championship, Ter Stegen started a number of games under Julian Nagelsmann, but he did not stand out in the competition. The 32-year-old replaces Germany's top player, Manuel Nauer, who took back the starting position following his injury recovery. However, Ter Stegen automatically would have taken Neuer's position in the event of an emergency requiring Germany to switch goalkeepers.

Prior to the tournament, when it was confirmed that the goalkeeper won’t start, the shot stopper was utterly disappointed. He said, "It is not a pleasant situation and even though I do not agree, at the end of the day, you have a responsibility to the group"

Moreover, he also told everyone about his relationship with Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. He said, "I told the national coach that one thing is sport and another is human. I want everyone to be able to trust me. It also has nothing to do with him on a personal level. We have a good relationship."

Recently also he did an interview and revealed about the decision of the coach. He said, “I wanted to play in the European Cup, but in the end the coach decided to choose Neuer.”

“It's regrettable because he really is world-class” : Manuel Neuer

In one of the earlier interviews prior to the UEFA Euro 2024, the Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper also spoke about Marc Andre Ter-Stegen. He discussed how it is not possible for him to play and it is a good problem to have for the team.

Manuel Neuer said, "It is a well-known problem in the goalkeeper position and there has never been a coach who has allowed two goalkeepers to play. The decision is always difficult.. Marc knows the situation. It must be said, it's regrettable because he really is a world-class goalkeeper who has shown good performances. But that's also part of the business."
