German football star Thomas Muller has confirmed his decision to retire from international football. The announcement was made via a video statement as the 34-year-old decided to hang up his boots after a stellar career which saw him play 131 matches and score 45 goals.
Thomas Muller said “After 131 national team games and 45 goals, I am saying goodbye. I was always proud to represent my country and I want to thank everyone. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the team on the way to the 2026 World Cup as a fan but no longer as a player on the pitch”
The veteran star was part of the German side which had made it to the quarter-finals of the 2024 EURO tournament. Germany lost to eventual winners Spain in extra time to end their dreams of winning the tournament.

Thomas Muller scored his first international goal in the same year against Australia. In the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Muller opened his account with two goals against England. This was followed by a goal versus Argentina as the Germans won the match 4-0.
The biggest moment of Thomas Muller in the German jersey came when he scored a hat trick against Portugal in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The Bayern Munich star didn’t have a great 2018 tournament and was back to form within the next few matches.
Muller’s final goal for Germany came against France in Dortmund during a friendly which the home team won 2-1. After a dismal EURO 2024 tournament there were rumours that Thomas Muller could call time on his career. It was confirmed earlier today when the German star did pull the plug on his career.
