Victor Lindelof may miss Ruben Amorim's first game as manager due to a new injury worry. Earlier this month, the Portuguese manager was named the next manager of Manchester United. Additionally, Amorim will supervise his debut match with the team next weekend after receiving his work visa.
The freshly promoted Ipswich will play the Red Devils at Portman Road. However, United might not have a defender for the trip. Lindelof was included in Sweden's starting lineup for Saturday night's Nations League match against Slovakia. However, he was only there for less than 30 minutes.
He is now a serious doubt for the game this weekend after needing assistance from two Swedish medical staff members to leave the field. Days before, Lindelof acknowledged that he was trying to push himself into consideration under Amorim.
The former Benfica defender said, "This is not something I think about. My focus has been to come back from the injury and play football again. But of course, there will be writings now what will happen when I am in my last year. My goal is always to help the team. Now I have come back, made 90 minutes at United which has been very nice. It's a different situation for me now."
"I've heard great things about him as a coach" : Victor Lindelof
In fact, when the two were playing for Portuguese powerhouse Benfica, Lindelof was coached by Ruben Amorim. The defender also discussed his bond with his new manager. The Swedish defender said, "I was young at the time, and we didn't have a relationship outside of football, but I've heard great things about him as a coach. It will be great to meet him again. It's been many years since we played together.”
If the center-back is sidelined, Amorim, the next United manager, will have still another worry. Defenders Tyrell Malacia, Leny Yoro, and Luke Shaw are all out at the moment, and Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez are both questionable. In addition, Kobbie Mainoo will be tested before the trip to Ipswich on Sunday.
