Luka Modric, Real Madrid's star midfielder, has extended his contract at Los Blanos after being linked with a transfer away following 12 hugely successful years with the club. After seeing their team officially proclaimed the 2023-2024 La Liga champions on May 4, the vast Real Madrid fanbase's jubilation were further heightened by news of the 2018 Ballon D'or winner wanting to stay with the club for another season. The 38-year-old's contract with Carlo Ancelotti's side is slated to end in June 2024.

Modric's deal might be a good decision for Real Madrid since it will allow him to put his experience to greater use and assist other younger midfielders like Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, and Brahim Diaz improve their games.

Nacho Fernandez announced on Saturday that he has opted to quit Real Madrid when his contract expires at the end of this month. The 34-year-old has signed to terms with recently promoted Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah, where he will play when his Euro 2024 participation ends.

Huge honour for Luka Modric

Nacho is now the club's captain, and he will naturally step down whenever he leaves. Miguel Angel Diaz has announced who will be Real Madrid's new captain: Luka Modric. He will be the first captain, followed by Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez, both right-backs.

Federico Valverde would be next in line, followed by Thibaut Courtois and Vinicius Junior. The probability is that all of these will go up one spot again next summer, with Modric set to retire in 2025. It will be a huge honour for Modric to be Real Madrid's captain, something he fully deserves after 12 years of devotion. He hopes to lead Los Blancos to numerous trophies next season, which, like Nacho's in 2023-24, will most likely be his only season in charge.
