Real Madrid won their 15th UEFA Champions League trophy beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 on Saturday. The Los Blancos throughout the tournament were undefeated as they won 8 games and drew 4 of them. That showed their dominance in the marquee European club competition. Carlo Ancelotti who yet again delivered and made a double possible as previously he won the 36th La Liga title for the club.

His midfield partner Luka Modric who was set to leave the club has decided to extend the contract with the club. His present contract ends on June 30, and he stated last week that he believes in an extension following the Champions League final. The Croatian national team captain has played with the "Royal Club" since the summer of 2012, winning 26 titles with them.

He alongside Kroos has been one of the best midfield duo of all time. They won 6 UCL trophies together, however, the latter will be hanging up his boots after the UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany. As per, Fabrizio Romano the Croatian will sign a new one-year contract, with a meeting taking place with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez next week to get everything wrapped up.

Luka Modric: Underrated gem of football

The Italian journalist also claimed that he turned down two lucrative contract offers to remain at Real Madrid. He is expected to remain a squad player despite Kroos' departure, but his experience will be useful to players in Ancelotti's team, despite not being a regular starter for the game.

Modric will be next in action for the Euro 2024 as he will lead Croatia for yet another major tournament after leading them to the final of the 2018 World Cup and then the 2020 Euro knockout stages and winning the third-place medal in the FIFA World Cup 2022 beating Morocco.
