Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate draws the attention of top European clubs

Ibrahima Konate is making the transfer headlines with strong interest from top clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. Since joining RB Leipzig in 2021, the 25-year-old has  established himself in Liverpool's starting XI. He has become a vital component of the defence, forming a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk at centre-back. This duo is instrumental as the Reds not only compete for the Premier League and Champions League titles but also prepare for an exciting Carabao Cup final.

Konate draws attention of European giants 

The defender has emerged as a prospective target for both PSG and Real Madrid, and he has been open to discussing the speculation when inquired about it. Currently under contract at Anfield until 2026, the club values his contribution and aims to retain him, particularly with the current uncertainty surrounding the futures of key players like Van Dijk, Mo Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom have contracts expiring this summer. Real Madrid may try to sign him to rest their defensive woes following multiple injury concerns this season.

Konate has been associated with PSG for a while now, and the defender himself acknowledges that it makes sense, given his Parisian roots and the fact that his brothers are avid fans of the club.

"To hear big clubs like that are showing interest in me is very flattering. Now, I focus on this season to win everything and take the maximum of titles. For my contractual situation, I let my agents take care of it." Konate said.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has praised Konate, highlighting his potential for improvement in one specific area while expressing strong regard for his overall abilities.

"He’s already very good. He’s a centre-back who, without even touching the ball, is impressive because he is so strong and tall" the Dutchman said.

"One of the things he could improve is his play with the ball, bringing the ball out from the back. I would not say he was poor in that but he could improve and go to another level." Slot added.
