Lionel Messi Showed Glimpse of His Prime

Lionel Messi delivered up to his name registering three goals and an assist in the second half. This match marked his first hat trick for Inter Miami, the club he joined midway through the 2023 season, highlighting a significant achievement for Major League Soccer. With this victory, Inter Miami became only the eighth team in MLS history to complete a regular season with just four losses, tying a notable record.

Despite playing for only about 35 minutes on Saturday, Messi showed his skill by scoring three times. He concluded the regular season with a remarkable tally of 20 goals and 16 assists over 19 matches, demonstrating his significant impact on the team.

There had been some speculation regarding Messi's participation in the match, particularly since Inter Miami had already secured the Supporters’ Shield and the top seed in the MLS Cup playoffs. Saturday's game was primarily focused on setting a new record for the team.

Messi almost faced another career-threatening injury

In the 74th minute, there was a moment of concern when Messi was fouled. He visibly expressed his discomfort, clutching his right ankle while on the ground. Throughout the 2024 season, he has missed 15 MLS matches, largely due to international commitments with Argentina and a two-month recovery period for a significant ankle injury he sustained during the Copa América in July, where he played a pivotal role in his nation’s victory.

In the second half, Messi prime scored two quick goals, transforming a 3-2 lead into a commanding 5-2 advantage. His third goal, facilitated by a clever pass from Suárez in the 89th minute, highlighted his exceptional performance in securing a hat trick.

Inter-Miami in FIFA Club World Cup

FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed on Saturday night that Inter Miami will participate in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. This prestigious event is set to occur every four years, showcasing 32 teams from FIFA's six soccer confederations.
