Lionel Messi is arguably the greatest footballer of all time. The Argentina World Cup winner is known for his prolific goal-scoring ability and assisting his teammates. He has been one of the most decorated footballers of all time and has won every possible individual and team trophy in his prolonged career with the clubs and nation. The footballer left Europe in 2023 and is currently featuring for the Major Soccer League (MLS) club Inter Miami. 

The 36-year-old footballer will soon turn a year older in nine days and he has already passed his prime and will also be hanging up his boots in some years. The Argentine forward has been the leading goal scorer for the country and the whole of South America. He previously dropped a comment about his possible future at MLS and might also be ending his career in the USA itself. 

But despite passing his prime he is still breaking records in international football. The Argentina captain has become the most international goals in history as a non-European footballer. A brace against a recent friendly against Guatemala increased his goal tally to 108 and getting tied up with Ali Daei. However the latter has retired from football and Messi is still playing and he will be crossing goal tally in the upcoming Copa America 2024. 

Messi eyes to defend Copa America

LM 10 is still behind Cristiano Ronaldo who is the leading goal scorer in international football. The Portuguese superstar has 130 goals beside his name in international football with the Argentine still behind on 22 goals. Their intense rivalry has given entertainment to many fans and football pundits. Both footballers in their prime era were amazing to watch as they both tried to surpass each other in every aspect of the game. 

Messi will be heading for the Copa America in the USA and will look to defend the trophy as well, this might be his last quadrennial tournament for the La Albicelestes. As for the next tournament, he will turn 41 by that time and it might be impossible for him to compete at the highest level.
