Lionel Messi has reportedly shared his intentions for the future following his time with Inter Miami. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner signed a contract with Inter Miami in 2023, which has just one season remaining.
While the club is optimistic about extending Messi's stay in the MLS through 2026, it appears that the Barcelona icon is already considering his next steps after his current contract concludes.
David Beckham reveals Messi's future plans
Messi is expected to be back in the Spanish city where he rose to prominence, having initially joined the La Liga giants at the young age of 13. This insight comes from David Beckham, owner of MLS club Inter Miami and former Manchester United legend.
"I would like Messi to live in Miami after he retires, but Leo has told me that he only thinks about living near the Camp Nou. There is no player who loves Barcelona as much as he does. You can see the Barça logo on his leg and even on his water bottle." David said.
This year holds significant importance for both Messi and Miami, as they prepare for their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States this summer. Additionally, preparations are actively underway for the upcoming 2025 MLS season.
Messi's family friend Yanina Latorre has too asserted that the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner will not be extending his contract with the club. Instead, he is expected to return to the Spanish capital of Barcelona.
A potential return to Barcelona as a player might pose challenges for Messi, given the ongoing financial difficulties the club faces. Nevertheless, he would undoubtedly receive a hero's welcome. An ambassadorial role could be a more feasible option for the Argentine, who is currently preparing for what may be his final season in MLS.
