Lamine Yamal's heroic against Athletic Club helps Barcelona enter in Spanish Super Cup Final

Barcelona defeated Athletic Club 2-0 on Wednesday to advance to the Spanish Super Cup final, without Dani Olmo's registration issue with La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation. This win was led by young sensations Gavi and Lamine Yamal. Before the match, Spanish playmaker Olmo was given 'all-clear' to return to action temporarily; however, the decision was too late for him and Pau Victor, who was playing in the same position, to participate against Copa del Rey winners Athletic.

After 17 minutes, Gavi gave Barcelona the lead from close range, and shortly after the interval, teenage winger Yamal scored the second goal. Barcelona, the runners-up in La Liga, got to a great start. Raphinha volleyed over a beautiful cross from Jules Kounde then forced Unai Simon to make a fantastic save with a free-kick. It was no surprise when the Catalans broke the deadlock with Alejandro Balde cutting the ball back for Gavi, playing in Olmo’s offensive midfield role, to turn home for his first goal since suffering a catastrophic knee injury last season.

After scoring the goal, Gavi's celebration was a gesture of Dani Olmo's celebration showing a watch on the hand which he often does after scoring. While Athletic Club failed to score during the first half as Inaki Williams' shot on target and was saved by the goalkeeper. Another goal for Barcelona came through their star Yamal who was on the sideline for a long time due to injury.

Wojciech Szczesny starting goalkeeper for Barcelona was playing his second match and was busy as Inaki Williams was a real threat to the team. In the second half, Barcelona’s target for a long time Nico William came in as a substitute where he got many chances but failed to score.

The second semi-final will take place between Real Madrid and Mallorca. If Real Madrid wins the semi-final, there will be El Clasico in Supercopa de Espana final. Dani Olmo is permitted to play in the final, which Barcelona was able to secure their spot in.
